As an artist taking on a new project, I understood that I was taking a chance when I chose to draw Seattle Slew in an unconventional way. My presentation doesn't fit the classic mold of how a legendary Thoroughbred should be drawn. However, I believe most artists at some point in their careers succumb to the urge to try something different. Seattle Slew had a presence which screamed "Stop what you're doing and notice me!". I believe I captured that fascinating presence in my pastel of Seattle Slew with him boldly looking at the viewer. At one time he was nick named "Baby Huey", but Seattle Slew proved them wrong when he became the only horse to win the Triple Crown while undefeated, and remains so till this day.
