Round Table is considered by many to be the greatest turf horse in American racing history. I was barely a year old when Round Table retired from his legendary racing career in 1959. However, in my early teens I visited libraries to read everything I could to learn about horse racing. Round Table was one of the first of the “greats” that captivated my attention and in the early stages of my career I was compelled to draw his image. I have been told by a couple of people who knew this great horse well, including the champion jockey Willie Shoemaker who rode Round Table, that I truly captured Round Table’s presence. For those of you who may not be familiar with Round Table's career, you may be familiar with his great grandson "Seattle Slew”, another champion in this wonderful sport.
